autografts from pressure which can induce
tissue resorption , helping to maintain the
block graft volume Fig. 7, 8, 9.
The titanium meshes are a great alternative
to the calvarium grafts in reconstruction of
the sinus walls that need to be rebuilt fig. 10
, 11 , 12 .
Complications
The main complication is membrane
exposure and possible contamination of the
graft with its subsequent loss. When this
happens various authors have proposed
the removal of the membrane ensuring
graft maintaining after surgical cleanliness.
Also proposed by various authors in order
to reduce the risk of exposure is the use of a
collagen membrane to cover the mesh , however there seems to be no scientific data
supporting this assumption ..
Conclusion
The use of titanium mesh is not a perfect solution for the
horizontal and vertical bone loss. However, it represents on
more battle achieved over the regeneration once the clinician starts to get to the desired shape with the use of these
rigid elements .
The search for materials that can be CAD CAM designed
and produced, also known as “ Single Scaffolds “, are today
a major investment of companies dedicated to the manufacturing of bone substitutes. Hopefully this will lead this techniques to become more predictable and less technically
demanding .
