For Monofilament Line to Braided Fishing Line use the Modified Albright
Knot
Many anglers like to use a length of monofilament fishing line at the terminal end of their
braided fishing line to act as a shock leader. A proper connection knot is crucial for the shock
leader to function properly. When I’m adding on a shock leader to the terminal end of my
braided fishing line the Modified Albright knot (sometimes called an Alberto Knot) is my go to
knot for this chore. It has never let me down. Keep in mind, the length of the monofilament
leader linewill vary by application. If a shock leader is being used during bottom fishing, a 10foot length is about right. If the mono line is used for casting lures such as top water plugs,
usually a 24 to 36-inch shock leader will work best.
To tie the Modified Albrightform a large loop with the thicker monofilament line and
pass about 10-inches of the braided fishing line through the loop that you formed with the
monoline. Neatly wrap the braided line up and around the thicker mono loop 7 to 10-times. After
reaching the correct number of wraps reverse the braided line’s directionand wrap it down
