POWERBREEDS AND THE PETER PARKER PRINCIPLE

SPCA Inspectors find pitbulls living in the worst conditions imaginable
The well-quoted proverb “ With great power comes great responsibility ”, also known as the Peter Parker principle , was popularised by Spider-Man comics many years ago . It would be safe to say that the formulation applies to all those in positions of power ; law enforcement officials , politicians and the media to name just a few because of the devastating effects irresponsible behaviour within these roles can have on the lives of ordinary citizens . This same duty of responsibility must be extended to the owners of power breeds because their actions or lack thereof can have devastating effects on the lives of the others too .
In November of this year , the unthinkable happened . A 3-yearold , deaf , mute boy tragically died in the jaws of man ’ s best friend . It ’ s a tragedy , amplified a thousand times over by the fact that it could have been avoided . It ’ s equally tragic that incidents such as these result in the vilification of Pitbulls , whose neglect and suffering we witness daily . In trying to navigate the minefield of possible scenarios that resulted in the horrific and unacceptable death of a child , we can only reach one conclusion – we as the dominant species on earth , have failed the animals that we domesticated and by whatever process - natural or otherwise - “ engineered ” to serve our needs .
In motivating for this argument , we need to start right at the beginning and understand how dogs came to be our companions :
