SANLAM CAPE TOWN VIRTUAL MARATHON

29 Animal lovers , including 12 of our inspectors , sponsored by My School , My Village , My Planet took on the Sanlam Cape Town Virtual Marathon to raise both awareness and funds to put a stop to dogfighting . These brave individuals honoured the plight of dogs forced to fight with every pound of the pavement . Ian Smith ran the full marathon ( 42km ’ s ), while Marelize Barnard , Yanelle van der Westhuizen , Rene Arenhold , Carla Pottas , Amorece Roos , Rikus Roos , Matthew Weir , Mandy Buchanan , Linda Payton , Diane Bowers , Heather Arnold , Michelle Slabbert ,
Nadhim Kajee and Charmaine Graney took on the half marathon ( 21km ’ s ). Our inspectors did their part on the Sea Point Promenade clocking up over 70km ’ s between them .
The event raised a total of R143,842.00 of which the inspectorate team raised R111 , 998.00 via public support ! Stepping up to stop dogfighting came easily to them because they see firsthand the suffering of victims of this cruel blood “ sport ”.

DO IT FOR LOVE – THE NON- MARATHON MARATHON

This non-marathon marathon called for all those in lockdown to do whatever they were doing with purpose and saw participants taking up Netflix bingewatching , reading and banana bread baking marathons ! The opportunities for participation were endless and those who rose to the challenge were rewarded with prizes from 5 Seasons Guest House and Regal Pet Health for the most creative challenge and for raising the most funds . The event raised R23 801.00 .
