In the midst of the COVID19 pandemic and during one of the coldest winters we have experienced in a while , a supporter made a special call on our behalf . The call was to donate towels and blankets to the furry friends in our care . We were blown away by the response and the result was a 10x12m2 room packed to the rafters with blankets , pillows , dog beds , cat beds , towels and doggie jackets .
Every single donation was so valuable to us but one donation amidst the pile of goods touched our hearts and moved us to tears . The donation was a single hand towel embroidered with the name “ Louisa ” and with it a pill bottle filled with copper coins . The donation had come from the heart of one of the members of our pensioner community and came with the request that the towel be given to a puppy in need of some comfort .
This selfless act of kindness is pretty telling , it speaks to a deeply ingrained value system to help in times of trouble , even though the giver didn ’ t have much herself ! And , we received so much more than the giver intended . We were humbled , touched beyond words and so encouraged by a gesture that the donor likely considered to be small and insignificant . This gift we were given , reminded us of the many supporters we have , who carry our cause as close to their hearts as we do and are moved by the plight of animals to share whatever they can . This gift was priceless .

A LIFETIME OF GIVING

The record of Amy ’ s first donation to the SPCA
Meet Amy Grainger who for the last 20 years has supported the work of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA . Amy , a member of our SPCA , Animal Guardian and Tails Up Club member has had quite a journey with the SPCA movement , a journey that started a lot longer than 20 years ago ! We were quite blown away when Amy recently sent us a copy of the receipt for her first donation of 6 / 6d ( 6 Shillings and 6 Pennies ) made on the 3 rd of August 1960 . This means that Amy has been contributing to a kinder world for animals for around sixty years . Amy , we salute you and your heart for animals and thank you for your commitment to the cause .
