As Hospice & Palliative CareCenter has expanded its services to the residents of Stokes and surrounding counties, the staff has grown as well. Long-time, experienced Hospice team members are taking positions of leadership to share their expertise as they offer specialized Hospice care to their friends and neighbors in the local community. Meet Tricia Zylstra, Hospice RN, Team Leader, wife, mother, sister, and daughter. Tricia has proudly been with Hospice & Palliative CareCenter for four-and-a-half years. She began as a case manager and was recently promoted to Team Leader of the Walnut Cove office. Her experience in the ICU of a local hospital led her to Hospice. She had a desire to care for people at a time when they need intensive care, yet she wanted to do it in what she describes as a “different environment.” “I decided I was ready for a change in my career and wanted to help make people comfortable, at home, in familiar surroundings.” Tricia responded to an opening for a nursing position at Hospice and was hired. “From day one, I was impressed with the organization and their level of Tricia Zylstra, Hospice RN commitment to their patients and staff. I knew immediately it was where I wanted to be.” When asked what she likes the most about working for Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, Tricia responded, “It feeds my soul. Hospice is special because we have the time to be there for patients and families and make a difference at a difficult time in their lives. I’m honored to be the Team Leader of our office in Walnut Cove and I look forward to the privilege of providing compassionate care.” 35
