Torino– Juventus

Juventus were prevented from clinching a fourth consecutive Serie A title with a 2-1 loss at Torino in a derby marred by fan violence.

After Andrea Pirlo put Juventus ahead with a free kick 35 minutes in, fellow Italy international Matteo Darmian equalised just before half-time and former Juventus forward Fabio Quagliarella scored the winner just before the hour mark.

Before the match, Torino fans assaulted the bus carrying Juve's players as it approached the stadium, breaking a window. Juventus supporters retaliated by throwing fireworks at Torino counterparts inside the stadium, injuring several.

Two Juventus fans and one Torino supporter were arrested over the incident during the match and a further two Juventus fans were detained in relation to disturbances outside the stadium.

Violence flared before the game when 300 Torino fans tried to block the Juventus team bus from entering the stadium and threw stones at the vehicle, breaking one of its windows.

Police in Turin said in a statement that security video had allowed them to identify one suspect who would face charges of causing criminal damage.

Violence is not uncommon at Italian soccer games but authorities have worked hard in recent years to clamp down on trouble.
