GMC was designated a military junior college in 1950. It proudly serves as
one of four military junior colleges in the nation today.
Georgia Military College places tremendous value in the community it has
been a part of and given back to for more than a century. For decades, GMC
students, cadets, athletes, faculty, staff, and administrators have found myriad
ways to give back to their neighbors in and around Milledgeville, which has
included visiting and volunteering at local veterans’ organizations, churches,
nursing homes, and food pantries.
Throughout the 140-year history of Georgia Military College, one thing
has remained the same - its mission to produce educated citizens and
contributing members of society in an environment conducive to the
development of the intellect and character of its students. Every GMC
classroom, campus, and program stresses a character-based education and
strong personal ethics.
Over the years, a wide variety of noteworthy and famous GMC high school,
college, and Corps alumni have served as stellar examples of what that
mission can truly ascomplish. Those GMC alumni include: U.S. Attorney for
the Southern District of Georgia, Bobby Christine; Georgia Governor George
Busbee; Congressman Carl Vinson; U.S. Secretary of Labor W.J. “Bill” Usery
Jr.; comedian Oliver Hardy; pioneering surgeon, Dr. Alfred Blalock; University
of Georgia head football coach, Wally Butts; and numerous NFL Super Bowl
champions, including Daniel Wilcox and Jarius Wynn.
Without a doubt, GMC students and alumni know that you really can -
“start here, and go anywhere!”
