Brentwood Town season was to be in and around the top half of the table and seeing whether the team could challenge for the play-offs, but he concedes, “The play-off group have pulled away now, so being realistic, I cannot see us catching them unless we go on an unbelievable run until the end of the season. So, top half of the table is still our target.” Attendances at home matches have improved again this season and the fan base has grown at home and away matches. Shipman appreciates the support and says, “It is superb for a club of our size to be followed each week by a group of hard-core fans. It makes such a difference and is much appreciated by the players.” The ethos of the Club has always been to provide an opportunity for those in the local community. The Brentwood Town youth section was established in the mid-1990s by current Chairman Brian Hallett, and there are now teams from U7 upwards, including six in the Eastern Junior Alliance from Under-13 through to Under-18. The Under-18s had a good run in the FA Youth Cup this season, reaching the 1st round proper where they were beaten 4-1 by Luton Town at Kenilworth Road. Some of that team have appeared in the 1st team squad this season while others are featuring in the club’s Under-23 development team. “My association with Brentwood Town FC stretches back several years to when I served on the committee. They are a nice community football club that punches well above their weight. Hopefully, in time, they will be able to attract more financial backers into the club. I have sponsored the club for around ten years and one of the really positive factors about Brentwood Town FC is their success in attracting younger players into the game. Keep on doing what you are doing and enjoy your football.” Jason Webster Off the field, the biggest challenge the club faces in the short term is upgrading the facilities to ensure they maintain their status in step 4 of the National League System. The immediate priority is to increase the size of the dressing rooms for first team fixtures to meet the FA’s requirements. Looking further ahead, the Club has been looking for some time into the feasibility of installing a 3G pitch, either on the main arena or on the field outside the ground where there are currently three grass pitches used on Sundays by the youth section.
