Coldstream Coldstream FOOTBALL CLUB A lot of work is being put into Coldstream FC in order to make sure that the club is successful both in the short and long term. Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with their manager Jonathon Fairbairn to find out more. Involvement He told us, “I was contacted about the managerial vacancy at Coldstream whilst still playing professionally at Berwick Rangers around March time last season. By this stage I was almost two seasons into my coaching career in which I was the Head Coach of the Academy team there, as well as being involved in a coaching capacity with the U20’s development squad. I knew the club well because of living only nine miles away from the town and I had also played against them whilst they were in the same league as Berwick Rangers Reserves, who at the time competed in the East of Scotland First Division. At the end of this season (2012/13), I was offered professional terms at Berwick but would look on with interest and admiration of Coldstream FC and always considered them the best ran club in the area outside the SPFL. With this in mind, I was always open to discussing the possibility of taking on the vacant managerial role. This interest was cemented after first meeting with the club’s Chairman David Lauder and Vice Chairman Bob Martin. I was hugely impressed and, in all honesty, surprised at their levels of professional thinking and ambition. In terms of what attracted me to the role on top of the impressive initial impressions, the fact that the East of Scotland Football League were in the process of receiving applications from a lot of the top Junior Association clubs to join the league was a major influence. I saw this as an exciting challenge to compete against these well established and in many cases, financially well supported clubs. More importantly though, I felt that Coldstream FC were able to support me in making sure the season ahead could be a successful one. Looking back, I didn’t realise how important a decision it was to ensure my first role as a manager was at a club where I do get this support – I was lucky that this is the case at Coldstream.” www.footballfocusmag.com 35
