Eyemouth United FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/FOOTYFOCUSMAG Eyemouth United FOOTBALL CLUB Eyemouth United FC is a club that is working hard to lay a solid platform in order to be successful in the future. Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with Club Representative Gary Cardle to find out more about the work they’ve been doing lately. Involvement He told us, “I was appointed as Manager of Eyemouth United Football Club in the 1st week of November 2018, I had previously been Scouting Opposition Teams for Edusport Academy in the Lowland League and when the opportunity arose at Eyemouth, it was a no brainer. A Club with so much football history within a small local village and a challenging project to manage the club and to support the committee’s desire to push the club forward was too good an opportunity to bypass.” The Role “The most challenging aspect has been trying to get local players, who have the ability to play at a higher level to remain or join the club. However, this lack of commitment and desire for players to maximise their potential is not unique to Eyemouth FC. The most rewarding aspects have been bringing all the club coaches together who work with teams from 4/5 years through to under 16s. Supporting our youth teams and coaches to learn and develop through sessions with myself and Assistant Manager Ross Aitchison on a weekly basis. This along with support from the club in providing additional training each week will allow us to progress the club positively and develop our players.” Progression “It is important for the club to be viewed positively in the community and the wider football arena. These included broadening minds to observe the bigger long-term picture 24 Issue 83 and with the help of the club putting foundations in place to overcome these challenges. With the support of the committee we have expanded our training base to the new Heriot Watt University, Oriam Indoor Facility each week to accommodate a wider scope of players which has helped overcome challenges in recruitment. This move also facilitated the recruitment of Scouts recently to my backroom staff, which will prove vital in recruitment of players locally as well as nationally to Eyemouth.”
