We are part of a Sports Club, with Cricket, Snooker, Ladies & Men’s Darts, Bowls, Tennis, Walking Football & Walking Netball. I was approached by the chairman of the football club at that time, Mike Powells, who had been Chairman for the best part of twenty years and wanted to contribute to the club in a different role and required someone to take over the reins of the Football Club so to speak, I had some discussion and after quite a lot of thought, decided to accept. It was a well-run club on a stable financial footing so was an easy decision in the end. I had been involved playing local sport for some 26 seasons around the area with some experience as a 44 Issue 82 Director of another local club, so had some knowledge in what it was all about. I like to get on and do things rather than just be a figure head, I, along with a few other volunteers do everything needed to run a football club, from pitch maintenance to cleaning changing rooms to washing the kit, kitchen duties, catering for the players after the game and sometimes even watch a game of football! The biggest challenge is keeping the finance on an even keel, while we are very lucky with local companies and individuals as sponsors, it is still very difficult to keep everything running smoothly AND improve facilities, but I have a very willing group of helpers, I certainly couldn’t do this without them! Last year we bought a new Tractor & Mower and installed a borehole to maintain all our pitches. That was a huge investment for us but will benefit the whole club for years to come, we always have a project on the go! The club, while started in the late 1800s, the pitch was ploughed up for farm land during the 1st and 2nd World
