East Kilbride FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/FOOTYFOCUSMAG East Kilbride FOOTBALL CLUB East Kilbride FC is a relatively new football club based in South Lanarkshire, Scotland having been created out of previous clubs Stewartfield and Jackton Boys. The club is based on strong beliefs of encouraging youths in East Kilbride to enjoy and further their fitness and skills. Their motto is “a priori” or “based on what went before” as a reminder of the original club, the two founding modern teams and the other clubs that joined during 2011 and 2012. The club is based at K-Park in Calderglen Country Park and the aim is to eventually start up the first ever professional club in East Kilbride. K Park was built and is operated by East Kilbride Community Trust, a Registered Charity and is available to other sports, and also to other football clubs in the local area. The Club has achieved SFA Quality Mark, Community Club Award and the five Core Values of discipline, diet, fitness, respect and manners will underpin the aim of lifelong development. In April 2014 the Club became Full Members of the SFA, achieving Entry Level Licence. So far this season their first team has been in fantastic form, compiling a record of sixteen wins, two draws and one defeat from their nineteen matches played. This sees them sitting top of the table with fifty points on the board, nine clear of their nearest rivals. This should provide them with the perfect platform from which to go on and put together a successful campaign. A long as they are able to retain their current group of players they seem sure to be crowned champions. One of the highlights of the team’s performances so far this season has been the attacking brand of football that they have been able to produce. This has been reflected by the fact that they have found the back of the net forty-nine times at a rate of more than two per game. This will certainly have meant that any supporters attending their matches will have been well entertained and 42 Issue 82 should encourage more of the local community to get behind the side in future. This in turn has the potential to provide them with a valuable source of additional revenue. East Kilbride is not a club to focus solely upon their senior set up and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a thriving youth section. This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local community with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area they appear to have covered. East Kilbride’s success this season is a just reward for all of the hard work that goes into the club. If they continue in the same manner then they should be able to look forwards to a bright future.
