Working Men’s Club
FOOTBALL CLUB
East Stanley Working Men’s Club FC enjoyed a fine
year in 2018 and will be looking to continue to develop
in 2019. They currently compete in Division 2 of
the Consett and District Sunday League and will be
targeting promotion this season.
The first half of the season could not really have
gone any better for them having compiled a record
of eleven wins and just one draw from their twelve
league matches. Unsurprisingly, this sees them
sitting proudly at the top of the table with thirty-
four points on the board.
They will now be looking to continue their
recent good form and if they are able to do so then
they will be celebrating a league title come the end
of the year. So long as they are able to keep their
current group of players together and do not suffer
any serious injury problems they should be in with
a great chance of doing just that.
One of the highlights of the team’s performances
so far this season has been the attacking brand of
football that they have been able to produce. This
has been reflected by the fact that they have found
the back of the net 82 times at a rate of more than
six per game.
This will certainly mean that any supporters
attending their matches will have been well
entertained and should encourage more of the
local community to get behind the side in the
future. This in turn will help the club to build on
the momentum it already has and should help to
ensure that it enjoys a long and sustainable future.

Striker Kai Hewitson has played a key role in the
sides attacking nature and has already found the
back of the net 37 times. He has been well supported
by fellow player Jamie Leathard who has notched
26 times. That means that between them they have
scored an incredible tally of 63 goals already and
they seem certain to add to that tally over the
coming months.
Having a pair of players capable of scoring
that many goals is a major boost for any side and
is undoubtably a massive plus for East Stanley. It
will give them great confidence to go into games
knowing that they have the firepower in the side to
turn good performances into wins. They are not the
only reason the team has been so successful and the
strong spirit that they have built has also played a
key role.
There is much to admire about the fine set up that
East Stanley WMC FC currently has in place and
this is testament to all of the hard work going into
the club both on and off the field. They appear to be
the strongest side in their league by some margin
and perhaps their biggest challenge will come next
season when they step up a league. If they are able
to produce the same type of performances as this
season then they will have nothing to fear.
