base since we were formed!) There is
a great sense of togetherness between
the team and committee, we are doing
things the right way on and off the pitch,
crowd numbers are going up and we are
gaining an excellent reputation across
the league and in the local community.
We are all pulling together with
excellent teamwork, have a vision of
where we want to go, the depth of the
squad is better than last year; we have
raised expectations consistently and are
continuing to meet them, push ourselves
and improve. There are lots of smiling
faces around FC at the moment!”
Present
“The season is going excellently.
We are currently top, having won 7 out
of 8 league games so far. We have built
on and learnt from last year, the squad
depth is better than last year (key players
who have left have been replaced by
excellent new additions) and some of the
performances have been breathtaking.
We have won our first FA Cup match and
advanced in two other cup competitions.
The Reserves – a young side – have
also progressed excellently this season
and are highly placed in their league. We
are seeing progression of some players
to the First Team side. We are a real
Biggleswade club, with most players
local and have done a lot of work with
local schools. We also have a strong
following in the local community and
excellent local press coverage.”
What Next?
“On the field, we want to improve
on last year’s 5th place finish and win a
cup competition whilst maintaining and
developing even further our particular
style of play across both sides. Not a
plan, but an aspiration for both sides is
to gain promotion and to continue to see
both sides as integral to Biggleswade FC.
Off the field/as a club we want to
create our own identity and take steps to
ensure that we are on the path to being
self-sufficient financially within the next
five years. We also want to develop our
club infrastructure, get more sponsors
onboard and grow a thriving FC
Supporters Association.”
Youth
“Youth football is massive for us.
We were born out of the Under 18s,
have a young, progressive side and are
actively involved with Biggleswade
Town Youth with our manager helping
to run the Under16s; we are looking
for these lads to progress through our
system and hopefully they can become
good enough to eventually play for FC
and even Biggleswade Town (at Step 3).
We
also
want
to
promote
Biggleswade youngsters playing for a
Biggleswade side and by offering two
levels we believe we are giving them the
opportunity. By the end of this season
our aim is to give 3/4 of the U16s an
introduction into senior football with
our Reserves. We also have the
dream of another of our players
getting a chance at professional
level like Keinan Davis.”
we get promotion. There will also be all
kinds of implications and pressures as
we further again and develop our own
facilities.
Like any club, we will need to think
about the strength of our playing sides
– maintaining and developing further –
and also ensure we are sustainable with
off field personnel. We have set very high
standards very quickly so do not want
to drop from these and the challenge
will be to go up from already
high levels! Our ambitions are
to become self-sufficient and
sustainable; have a clearly
defined identity; gain a
wider reputation for our
style of play.”
Challenges/Ambitions
“One of our biggest
challenges moving
forwards
will
be
managing
our finances,
