Pontefract
Training is serious from start to
finish but they train hard and smile all
the way through no matter what; the
attitude is amazing as the girls are keen
to learn and improve every week and
it’s happening and, as long as they keep
smiling that’s reward enough. Winning
comes second to enjoyment for me at
the moment as we’re not expecting to
challenge for the league we just want
to gain the experience for all the girls
involved.”
Atmosphere
“The mood at the club couldn’t be
any happier as everyone gets along, they
all get to training, they all enjoy it, they
all want to learn and it’s great to see how
much people are taking notice in the
local area of us. Moods can change, we
appreciate that, but I know this bunch of
girls and it will take a massive knife to cut
between them right now and spoil their
mood. They are very tighty knit which is
great; it’s fun, it’s happy, it’s enjoyable
and it’s a pleasure to be involved with
this set of players.”
the community and get everyone behind
us and we aim to have a great, enjoyable
season with everyone involved on and
off the field.”
Community
“We definitely would say we are a
community club; we have kids teams
from under 7s to 17s, two open age
men sides and now US. We want the
community to recognise us in the
future; we’re not a new club but we are
a new ladies team and we are hoping
the community gets behind us and us
behind them.”
Our ambition is to keep progressing
year after year. My personal aim would
ideally be to see Ponte (US) in the
NWRFL challenging the likes of Cas
White Rose, Hartlepool United, York
City etc. If the foundations are right and
the players keep coming through each
year and progression continues I can’t
see why the dream can’t be a reality.”
Challenges/Ambitions
“The next five years challenges are to
stay together to build on the foundations
we’re trying to lay and create a
successful side that will compete. The
financial and sponsorship side of things
we need to build on and create a stable
relationship with local businesses and
the community.
2018/19
“This year has gone from strength to
strength with us having started with one
idea to create a new ladies side to see it
happen and get 22 signed on and games
being played. The club is built around
men’s/junior football and everyone has
welcomed us with open arms, it’s like a
breath of fresh air around the place and
is a massive lift for everyone, it is early
days yet but things are going in the right
direction.
Our plans are to build a side that next
season will compete on a level field and
upset a few. If not this season, we aim to
get a secure footing for the future players
and staff and give us something to build
on. We also aim to establish ourselves in
