FOOTBALL CLUB
Worcester City FC has enjoyed a positive start
to the current campaign and will be looking to
build on that over the coming months. Football
Focus Magazine recently caught up with their
Chairman, Stephen Goode to find out more.
He told us, “I became chairman of
Worcester City Football Club in August
2018, I’ve been a supporter since the
age of seven, my late father George was
chairman in the late 70’s until 81 when
he suddenly passed away, collapsing
before our game at home against Devises
Town, I believe in the FA Cup.”
“Back in those days Worcester was
one of the top non-league teams including
Bath City, Weymouth Altrincham and
Nuneaton Borough to name a few and
became founder members of the Alliance
Premier League which is now known
as the National League … how times
have changed as we now play in the
Total Motion Midland Football League
Premier Division. Before we joined this
league we were playing in the National
North and took voluntary relegation and
dropped five leagues.
“There is so much history around
this club like being the only non-league
team to beat Liverpool back in 59, when
we won 2-1 in the FA Cup 2nd round
and soon after the great Bill Shankly was
made manager.
“We left St George’s Lane, the home
of Worcester City FC for 108 years at the
end of the 2013 season, and have been
without a ground we can call our own
since then, firstly ground sharing with
Kidderminster Harriers and currently
with Bromsgrove Sporting.
“We have a great working board
as three of the directors are retired
52 Issue 81
including myself, but still young and
active to get our hands dirty; we all have
roles within the club so no one person is
doing it all, we invite supporters to get
involved with what is going on in and
around the club also. It’s a pleasure and
honour to be the chairman of this great
club, speaking on behalf of my fellow
directors I’m sure they feel the same.
“Community is very much part of
what we as a club are trying to promote,
inviting different groups to games,
young and old. At the moment we are
trying to get a scheme to get elderly fans
to games with free transport, a link with
Age UK, Worcester Wheels, Inclusion
in Sport and Fans for Diversity. We also
have a lot of other ideas which we are
looking into at the present moment,
including a visit to our local hospital at
Christmas to give the children gifts.
“Social media is a very important
tool and we have a group of four or five
fans who look after this for us and do
an extremely good job, the reports and
match highlights are excellent. Working
