Bowerham Dynamos
FOOTBALL CLUB
M
y name is Kev McCarroll, I am the secretary and joint manager of Bowerham
Dynamos Football Club along with Matthew Elliston and we are currently
in our 3rd season. I have been involved in youth football previously for nine
years with Highgrove under 16’s. Our inspiration for starting an adult football team
came from myself and Matthew when running a reserves team where frustrations
soon became apparent when players were taken to play for the first team.
Our most challenging aspect regards
fundraising, I believe that teams from
little villages or bigger cities are funded
more efficiently therefore not enough
money is distributed amongst others.
The most rewarding aspect of running
the team is being able to work amongst
dedicated lads, we are proud to call
ourselves a family which has brought
the team closer together. There is a really
positive morale amongst the team lately
with high spirits and great laughs, the
comradery within the team is fantastic.
We are building from last season
where we were fortunate enough to win
the Division 3 league which was our
biggest achievement with it only being
our 2nd season together, we played
twenty games, lost two and drew one.
The season is going extremely well so
far.
Our plans for the 2018/2019 season
is to commit ourselves to training and
progressing through the league with
hopes of also reaching a cup final.
Our ambition for this season is to win
the league and cup title because at
Bowerham we strive to better ourselves
with every opportunity.
I am fortunate enough as a youth
coach to be able to progress into a senior
team with lads progressing and bringing
their friends. There is an added balance
of senior players who helped with the
transition and offered guidance and
support to the younger players.
We consider ourselves a community
club due to a number of reasons, our
biggest aspect relates to a player called
Bora Bora. Him and his wife Kerry
and their daughter Asena suffered a
tragic loss when their son and brother,
Cem Bora passed away in a house fire
in March 2017. The football team and
48 Issue 81
community joined together which was
inspiring and heart felt.
There is an outstanding morale
amongst the team as Bora himself is
a massive member of the Bowerham
family, he has helped the lads throughout
the season to become better and he is
truly loved by all. I honestly believe
we wouldn’t have won the league
without him as he inspired us all with
his honesty, bravery and loyalty. With
permission from Bora and his family,
the team players wear Cem’s name with
pride on the back of both their home and
away kits.
The biggest challenges for the coming
years are mainly financial, the aspect of
raising money to keep the club going and
keep people interested in what we are
trying to achieve. Also, bringing fresh
faces into the team as I believe there has
been a decrease in youth players.
Our ambition is for the club to
remain as a strong family both on and off
the pitch. Financial stability is a concern,
however we take every opportunity to
build funds. As a team I am hoping we
can progress to the Premier Division of
the North Lancs Football League and
establish ourselves as a premier team in
hopes of pushing for the title.
I would like to take this opportunity
to thank our sponsors, Glen, his
company is G & L Bathrooms Ltd and
son. We would like to thank Nexus
Utilities as well. Special people to thank
include Kerry Bora who is the owner of
Independent Barbers and Peter Corke,
Market Cobbler. We are always looking
for sponsors to get in touch by any
means possible.
I would like to say on behalf of me
and Matthew that we give a massive
thank you to all the players for their
commitment and dedication. We would
like to thank Kelly and Jodie Townley,
and also the Bowerham Hotel who are
involved in running the football club
behind the scenes. A massive thank
you to our number one supporter, Peter
Elliston who never misses a game home
or away. As always up the BDFC!
