FOOTBALL CLUB
airfield Villa FC has made a positive start to their league campaign
so far this time around and will be looking to build on that over
the coming months. Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with
Club Representative Charles Harris to find out more about the club.
He told us, “I have been involved Fairfield for fifty years,
starting in 1968 as a player from youth football. I joined them
because I knew the manager through work. I played and was
joint manager with another person, Paddy Eades, who did
56 years with the club until passing in 2015. I am now club
secretary and treasurer.”
“The biggest challenge of my role is keeping the club solvent
and ensuring that the name of Fairfield Villa is respected by
everyone who comes to our ground.
“The atmosphere at the club at the moment is very good with
the 1st team doing well and the new reserve side also started
in their first season here. They were formerly Bromsgrove
Sporting Reserves until they decided to finish them and they
came to us after discussions took place.
“The season is going better than expected so far. Our plan
for the rest of the season is to finish in the top 4 and try to win
a cup while our reserves just to consolidate their position in
the league. We also want our U12 colts team to be successful.
“It is very important for us to have a youth set up; we are
looking to increase the number of colts teams next season. We
try to get all teams to get to know each other including an over
35 side which also operates from Fairfield.
“We try to get the local community involved with us, for
example our U12s have in the past taken part in a village
litter clearance pick up on a Saturday morning. Also, we hold
community meetings every other month in our club room free
of charge.
“Our biggest challenge is to progress in our league we
need to improve our facilities; we need floodlights, solid
hard standing and extra car parking spaces to climb the F.A.
pyramid system.
“Our ambitions are to try to get the above because our lease
runs out in four years’ time with our landlords and we have
been in discussions before with them over floodlighting, hard
standing and car parking but to no avail. We did get planning
permission from Bromsgrove District council some years ago
for floodlights but the Parish council, our landlords, refused
us the go ahead to proceed so we still have work to do to
