FOOTBALL CLUB
Ellington FC is a club that has been developing well in recent times
thanks to a lot of hard work behind the scenes. Football Focus
Magazine recently caught up with their Manager, David Common,
to find out more about the good work that they’ve been doing.
Involvement
He told us, “David and myself started the club two years
ago, playing in the Tyneside Amateur League. During the
season Mark Race, a player who got seriously hurt while
playing joined up with manager David and have created a
good bond.
We had a very successful season in which we won the
league and were runners up in the league shield. We were
attracted to Ellington as it had a successful youth setup and
had never had a senior team.”
The Role
“The most challenging aspect of my role, as with any club
at the minute is the finance. It is very expensive running a
20 Issue 81
football club and we are a self-efficient to ensure we are not
taking away from the juniors. Ellington Juniors are currently
building a development in the heart of Ellington, which has
cost a fortune. Hats off to the committee and fundraisers who
have managed to achieve this. The most rewarding aspect is
seeing the progress of the club in such a short period of time.”
Present
“The general mood at the club at the minute is very positive.
We have improved considerably in such a short period of time
and have an ambitious bunch of lads involved with new people
coming in. We had a difficult start to the new season as, after
being promoted to a new league we took a few games to settle.
It has improved a lot since mid-August; we have added
to our backroom staff some experience in Anthony Matthews
