Pocklington Town Pocklington Town FOOTBALL CLUB Pocklington Town FC is a club that is committed to playing an important role in their community and have some exciting plans in place for the future. Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with their Chairman Ian Daniells to find out more. He told us, “I have been involved with Pocklington Town FC since 1967. First as a player, then secretary, part time groundsman, coach, welfare officer and Chairman.” “In my playing career I played for another local club but was asked to play at Pocklington, where I live and have never left. The most challenging aspect of my role is making sure the club runs smoothly, keeping it clear of debt and the most rewarding thing is seeing all the players enjoying playing football. “The mood in the club is good, the four senior sides have plenty of players to pick from and the juniors are doing well but we have lost two junior teams and this is a big hole to fill. “It was a mixed season with two of the senior teams winning their leagues, one finishing second and the other fourth. For the juniors it is not all about winning but one of the teams played in a final at York City’s ground and lost on penalties with the rest finishing in mid-table. “In Pocklington there are a lot of new homes being built and we have been able to secure some more land, which should be seeded soon and we will be able to take control of this in 2017. “Youth football is the foundation of our club, we start coaching for six year olds with basic skills and hopefully fifteen years down the line, they are our senior section. “Our club is very much a community club. We want the town of Pocklington to be proud of what we do and to use the facilities we have. “We have a fantastic facility but we need to keep moving forward. To move up a league we need to carry out work on the surrounds of our main pitch and also extend our changing rooms. The social club needs to be extended and we are looking to future proof the club with solar panels and water bore holes. “The biggest challenge for the club over the next five years is that Pocklington is growing as a town and we need to have in place a club that can accommodate the expected growth in population. Also, the financial side needs to be right, money is tight and we need sponsors to put money into the club. “In the next five years we hope to have new pitches up and running, plans in place for a changing room extension and to have applied to a higher league.” HAYTON service station Post Office and Village store A family run business situated on the outskirts of Pocklington, between York & Hull, on the A1079.
