Lydd Town FOOTBALL CLUB

Lydd Town FC is a club with some exciting plans for the future and they will be working hard during the off-season to make sure that they are in a position to achieve these goals . Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with their Secretary , Bruce Marchant to find out more .

Involvement
He told us , “ Born and raised in Lydd , I joined Lydd Town Football Club in 1971 as a sixteen year old having played for the Under 18 team first . Back in those days , if you lived in the town you played for the Town and I wanted to play for the Town side . I played for the Reserves first in the local Ashford League and then got into the then successful first team in the Kent Amateur League as it was then .
I stayed there till 1983 when I got married and moved out of the town to Folkestone and signed on for Hythe Town who played in the Kent League . I spent six enjoyable seasons there before re-joining Lydd in 1989 and the following season became player manager for the first team , a position I held for five seasons before handing over the reins to my assistant manager . We were very successful and won many trophies and I eventually took over the role of Club Secretary , the post I continue to hold .”
The Role
2016 / 17
“ Both our First and Reserve Teams finished 9th in their respective leagues ; the First team in the Southern Counties East Football League Division One ( Step 6 ) and the Reserves in the Andreas Carter Sports Joma Kent County League Premier Division ( Step 7 ). The First Team ’ s Division is very competitive and several clubs have budgets which we do not .
The Reserves are the only Reserve side in their Division and achieved a creditable position having won Division One East the season before . One area the club needs to improve on is the discipline side . Chasing the players up to settle their fines is onerous and time consuming .”
Present
“ We are optimistic and planning for the 2017 / 18 season . As always we are looking to add volunteers to help out and thinking of ways to increase the cash flow .
We have some small jobs around the
“ More and more of the secretarial work is moving online and this presents its own challenges as I ’ m not getting any younger ! I currently do the match day programme and the club ’ s website which together with the secretarial work is very time consuming . The most rewarding thing is the knowledge you ’ ve done a good job , not received any fines for late responses for not dealing with league correspondence etc .”
