Ashington Ashington FOOTBALL CLUB Ashington FC is based on Woodhorn Lane in Northumberland and their first team currently competes in Northern League Division One. They are led by Chairman Ian Lavery who is supported by Secretary Gav Perry and the club is looking to progress under their guidance. Last season it would be fair to say that their first team did not perhaps enjoy the campaign that they would have liked as they put together a record of thirteen wins, eight draws and twenty one defeats from their forty two matches. This saw them finish in the bottom half of the table with forty seven points on the board. They will now be working hard during the off-season to make sure that they are able to do better next time around. As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and can perhaps make one or two quality additions they should be in with a good chance of pushing on up the league. Speaking to fans, www.ashingtonafc.com reported that newly appointed joint manager Tom Wade said, “We have signed all of the lads from last season with the exception of two – Ryan McGorrigan and Jonathan Tiffoney, the latter who has returned to Scotland. It is a very strong squad and there are some top notch players. After the disappointment of finishing 16th in the first division table of the Ebac Northern League last season, the playing staff feel they have got a point to prove and we need the feel-good factor to return to the club. Ashington are a good club with a great future but we need to give the fans something to watch. My message to them is to ‘keep the faith and we won’t let you down’.” This is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section either and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a thriving youth set up. This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. There is much to admire about the fine set up that Ashington FC currently has in place and this is thanks to the hard work that their committee puts into the club. Hopefully they will be able to continue in the same manner for many years to come.
