Their Secretary, Trevor Wing, recently took the time to tell Football Focus Magazine more about the club. He said, “I joined Thornaby in 2010 after leaving Stokesley Sports Club, I made a promise to Peter Morris that if I left Stokesley I would join him at Thornaby but sadly he passed away around that time so I kept my promise and joined them.” “The most challenging thing when I joined was that we needed to improve the ground or we would have been relegated from the Northern League. We managed to get a grant for the walkway around the pitch followed by a refurbishment of the Changing rooms, and two years ago replacement floodlights in total around £40,000 in grants and a spending of £60,000 in total. We breathed a great big sigh of relief when the ground passed its grading inspection. “We must have the hardest working committee in the football world, they never stop in trying to improve the ground and the banter is top class. During the close season we have been hard at work trying to modernise old rooms under the stand into a new club house all with donated materials and done in committee member’s spare time. Without spending money we don’t have this is now open. “Due to a number of changes off the pitch, we are hoping to consolidate our position in the league and push forward next season on the pitch. It is very important that we include our juniors in all future plans as they are the future of the club. We try to smooth the transition into senior football by providing players with guidance from our coaching staff as there should be a smooth procreation into the first team as the players reach the age of 16. “Our biggest problem is where the club will be in 5 years’ time, with the uncertainty of the ground and the developers hopefully it will be sorted out by then. Thornaby are a community club and with the continuation of help from Thornaby Borough Council we will be going for the Community status from the FA in the next couple of years once we know where the juniors will be playing their football.” There is much to admire about the fine set up that Thornaby FC currently has in place and this is thanks to all of the hard work that has gone into making the club a success. If they continue in the same manner they are sure to be able to look forwards to a bright future. 70 Issue 65 Fox's Fruit and Vegetables Tel: 01642 582717 Suppliers of Fresh Fruit & Veg Sponsers of Thornaby F.C Elton Lane Gardens, Yarm back lane, Fairfield, TS21 1AZ
