Didcot Casuals for everyone as it impacts on the quality of the service the club can offer its members. Also being a club split over two sites it was difficult for teams to get a sense of the club beyond the home grounds where we play our matches. We don’t have the luxury of having a club house or fixed point where we can bring people together regularly enough to foster a proper club atmosphere. The good news is that we have this season implemented some key changes which we believe will help us address these issues. We hope that these new changes will encourage others to step forward beyond merely helping their own teams to helping the club move forward too. We have begun to see signs of this already this season. One of our members came up with the idea of a ‘boot swap’ box where people could deposit unwanted football boots for others to have for free. Kids grow so quickly and boots are so expensive that it can become an issue for many of our members just to keep their kids playing football. We are working with them to provide a pathway for our older boys beyond the age of 16 to enter men’s football. We are particularly happy that last season’s U16 team are continuing with the club to U17 level because this will help us shape this pathway to make it successful for all concerned. We would love to mirror that pathway on the women’s side too but that may take longer to achieve without an adult women’s team. Our oldest girls team are at U15 level next season, our goal is to keep them playing football for as long as we can to inspire the age groups below. Our long term goal is to have access to facilities which allows us to meet the demand for football in Didcot. We would be open to entering into partnership with other local clubs to achieve that goal and we hope that we can start that process soon. In the meantime we will do the best we can to provide football for everyone, regardless of ability. We are Casuals. We are Didcot’s football family.
