Rocester One of the club’s most notable successes came when they completed the Staffordshire Senior League and Staffordshire FA Vase double in 1986. The following year they reached the last sixteen of the FA Vase, knocking out holders Halesowen Town along the way. The club made the move to their current home at Hillsfield in 1987, also moving to the West Midlands (Regional) League Division One, which they won at the first attempt. The new ground was further developed with the addition of floodlights and a stand to enable the club to take its place in the Premier Division. The grounds location on the site of a former Roman fort gave rise to the club’s nickname of The Romans. The current group of players will be keen to add to the club’s proud history over the coming years. At present, their first team competes in the Midland Football League Division One and they are based on Mill Street in Staffordshire. They are a fine example of the important role that a club can play in their local community. Last season, it would be fair to say that their first team did not perhaps enjoy the campaign they would have liked as they compiled a record of ten wins, five draws and twenty-one defeats from their thirty-six league matches. This saw them finish in the bottom half of the table with thirty- five points on the board. They will now be working hard during the off-season to make sure that they can push on up the league next time around. As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and can perhaps boost the squad with three or four quality additions they should be in with a good chance of pushing on up the league. Rocester is not a club to focus solely upon their senior set up and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a thriving youth section. This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local community with the opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters can progress in the coming years. Rocester FC continues to work hard to provide people in their community with an opportunity to be involved in football. Hopefully they will be able to continue in the same manner for many years to come. McCracken Opticians Raising the standard of eyecare Why choose McCracken Opticians?
