FOOTBALL CLUB
Ryan FC is a club that has been going from strength to strength in recent
times and appears to be well set up for a bright future. Football Focus
Magazine recently caught up with Club Representative Richard Williams
to find out more about how they have been getting along lately.
He told us, “I formed the club
Ryan FC in 1995 and named it after
my new-born son Ryan. It has been
great seeing the club grow and also
seeing children progress not only as
footballers but also in life skills as
well. Ryan FC take great pride not
only working with academies but
also run community schemes to help
get children into sport. The main
challenges are price rises on facilities
and equipment as we do not have
enough finance to cover everything.
“Ryan FC are really going from
strength to strength and moral is
very good. We have kept most of the
players we have selected which is a
good sign and had trialists coming
from everywhere.
“2018-19 was very successful
with the U12s Green and U17s
winning their County Cups. We also
won domestic Leagues and Cups
and also had over fifteen players
sign for pro clubs with six signing
for Arsenal from the same team.
“Our plans for 2019 are to make
Ryan FC stronger as a club on and
off the pitch. Youth football at Ryan
FC is very important to the club as
it’s the future. Ryan FC also play a
massive part in the local community
giving children an opportunity to
express themselves and make them
feel part of something big.
“As a club we offer youth football
up to the age of 18 and we also let
players from 16-18 play for our 1st
team on occasions to give them their
26 Issue 86
first taste of senior football. The
problem we have at Ryan FC is that
there are now lots of B-tech schemes
in the local area so players drop out
of grass roots football as parents feel
their child is playing too much.
“The main challenge not only
for Ryan FC but many grass roots
football clubs are increases in
pitch and training hire and lack of
facilities especially in London. It is
our ambition to keep growing and
improving as a club and we want
to see how far we can get. Also,
we would like to start a girls team
and hope to get that off the ground
soon.”
