Grimsby Borough
FOOTBALL CLUB
I
t is an exciting time to be involved with Grimsby Borough
at the moment with plenty happening on and off the
field. Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with Club
Representative Daniel Barrett to find out more.
The Role
Daniel told us, “The role of a
manager in general is a challenging
one, it’s a very unforgiving job at
times. A large majority think it is a
job of just turning up and picking
a side - I wish it was that easy, it’s
the old cliché but there are kits to
be washed, training to be planned,
organising buses, dealing with
players issues and keeping everyone
happy - it’s a results business. I
respect any manager at this level
as it can be very much the spit and
sawdust level of football.”
Atmosphere
“The club is great - we have a lot
of young teams and without a doubt
the best structure locally regards
youth development (outside of pro
clubs). We regularly have teams
down as mascots and coming to
watch our games - our players try to
return the favour and coach some of
the teams as and when they can. It’s
a real family style club and that is
emphasised in our #ONEBORO.
We have some fantastic coaches
who really are diehard football
people – Shane Hillman has been
fantastic for the club gathering the
interest of children as young as 3,4,5
years old and is ever present at our
matches, along with Chris Francis,
Shane Jacklin with older age groups
and Swanny and Thommo running
our development reserve team
and Andy Thornton running our
Ladies amongst many many more
volunteers who have a great feel for
this club.
I also must mention how much
of a great impact Dave Fenwick has
had at the club - without him I very
much doubt the first team would
be where we are - his ambition and
support has been superior.”
Present
“It’s been a good season so
far; we have had a great FA Cup
run bringing some much needed
income, we are currently in a title
race and we reached another final.
Our development reserve team
has produced three or four lads
this season that will definitely be
in contention for roles within the
first team in the coming seasons;
