Elgin City FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/FOOTYFOCUSMAG Elgin City FOOTBALL CLUB Elgin City FC was first established on August 10th 1893 when Elgin Rovers and Vale of Lossie amalgamated to form a new club. They played their first competitive match on October 7th of that year and have gone on to put together a history of which they have every right to be proud since then. The current group of players will be keen to build on this history over the coming years. Indeed, this year they were recently able to announce that they have finalised arrangements for their 125th Anniversary Dinner which is to be held on Saturday 15th June at 7pm. The Guest Speakers attending this years event are Comedian Fred MacAulay and ICT Manager John Robertson with proceedings controlled by the Mart’s Colin Slessor. In past years the club’s dinners have always provided people with a splendid evening and this one promises to be one to remember. It is an extremely special occasion giving you an opportunity to meet many old acquaintances and business associates in a relaxed social atmosphere. At present, the club plays their home games at Borough Briggs in Moray and their first team currently competes in Scottish League Two. They are led by Chairman Graham Tatters who 26 Issue 85 is supported by Secretary Kieran Carty and the club is looking to progress under their guidance. Their first team put together a steady league in the 2018/19 season as they compiled a record of thirteen wins, four draws and nineteen defeats from their thirty- six matches. This saw them finish in a safe mid-table position with forty-three points on the board. This should provide them with a solid platform from which to build as they look ahead to the 2019/20 season. As long as they can retain their current group of players and can perhaps strengthen with a few quality additions they should be in with a good chance of pushing on up the league next time around. It will certainly be exciting to see how they get along. One of the highlights of the team’s performances this season have been the attacking brand of football that they have been able to produce. This has been reflected by the fact that they have found the back of the net fifty-two times at a rate of nearly two per game. This will certainly have meant that any supporters attending their matches will have been well entertained and should encourage more of the local community to get behind the side in the future. This in turn has the potential to provide them with a valuable source of additional revenue which is particularly important in the current financial climate. There is much to admire about the fine set up that Elgin City currently has in place and this is thanks to all of the hard work that goes into the club. Reaching 125 years is a terrific achievement for any club and if they continue in the same manner then they should be able to look forwards to a bright and successful future for many years to come.
