FOOTBALL CLUB
It has been a fantastic season for Llangefni Town FC as they
clinched a league title and promotion. Club Secretary Graham
Cohen recently took the time to give Football Focus Magazine an
insight into their success.
Involvement
He told us, “I’ve been a supporter of the club since I
was a child, going to matches with my grandfather and my
uncle both whom have held many positions for the club,
so I guess it was only natural that I carried on the family
tradition. I’ve been on the committee for seventeen years
and have been the secretary for the past four seasons.”
The Role
“The most challenging aspect of my role is making
sure we comply with the rules and requirements of the
league and FA Wales, as well as meeting the demands
of our chairman and manager. The rewarding aspect
is ultimately seeing success on the pitch but what’s also
rewarding is seeing and speaking to those that attend the
matches week in week out, the banter and the feeling that
I’m part of something.”
Atmosphere
“There is huge excitement around the place that we
have finally achieved our five-year plan, winning the
league and being promoted back in to the 2nd tier of Welsh
Football. We have worked extremely hard on and off the
pitch to achieve this goal, we are really looking forward to
12 Issue 85
next season and the challenges it will bring. I would like
to thank those who have worked tirelessly to make this
happen.”
This Season
“It has been an excellent season, finishing as Welsh
Alliance League Champions, Cookson Cup Champions
and runners up in the Mawddach Cup. Also, we did really
well in the national competitions, reaching the last 16 of
the Welsh Cup (following that memorable win over Welsh
Premier side Llanelli) and reaching the quarter-finals of
the FAW Trophy. Praise has to go to Chris Roberts our
manager, the coaching staff and the players on what they
achieved this season.”
The Offseason
“Our interim plans is to prepare for next season, Chris
our manager is currently working hard on retaining our
current playing squad and strengthening where he needs
ahead of preseason. Off the pitch we are busy looking for
sponsorships, fundraising and putting the funding in place
for the season ahead. We are also making improvements to
the pitch and ground to give both players and spectators a
better experience.”
