Dunbar United
Dunbar United
FOOTBALL CLUB
Dunbar United FC is a Scottish junior football club that plays their
home games at New Countess Park, having moved there in 2001.
They share the sports centre with the local rugby team, Dunbar RFC
and it has room for around 2,500 spectators.
The club was first established in 1925 and continue to
play as a Scottish junior football club, competing in the
EOSFL Conference A. Since first being established the
club has gone on to put together a history of which they
have every right to be proud.
Perhaps their greatest achievement came when they
won the Scottish Junior Cup in 1961 and their current
group of players will be keen to add to this over the
coming years. The team’s home strip is black and white
stripes and they enjoy a healthier support than many
teams at their level.
This season, their first team has put together a
positive league campaign, having compiled a record of
thirteen wins, four draws and seven defeats from their
twenty-four matches. This sees them sitting near the top
of the table with 43 points on the board.
Their performances this season should provide them
with the perfect platform from which to build for the

future. As long as they are able to retain their current
group of players and can perhaps make one or two
quality additions they should be in with a good chance
of mounting a serious title challenge next time around.
One of the highlights of the team’s performances this
season has been the attacking brand of football that they
have been able to produce. This has been reflected in the
fact that they have found the back of the net sixty-two
times at a rate of more than two per game.
This will certainly have meant that any supporters
attending their matches will have been well entertained
and should encourage more of the local community to get
behind the side in future. This in turn has the potential
to provide them with a valuable source of additional
revenue which is particularly important in the current
financial climate.
One of the main reasons the team has been so free
scoring has been the potent attacking partnership formed
by Dean Ballantyne and Fraser McLaren who have
scored 38 goals between them with Ballantyne leading
the way with 25. Chris King has also proven to have an
eye for goal from midfield with eighteen to his name.
Being able to rely upon players to consistently hit
the back of the net is important for any side and Dunbar
United is well stocked in this area. Knowing that creating
chances will result in goals will certainly serve to be a
major boost for the side.
There is much to admire about the fine set up that
Dunbar United currently has in place and this is thanks
to all of the hard work that they’ve carried out in recent
times. If they continue in the same manner they should
be able to look forwards to a bright and successful future.
