Winchester City FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/FOOTYFOCUSMAG Winchester City FOOTBALL CLUB W inchester City has been enjoying a fine campaign so far this time around and will be looking to finish the season well. Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with Club Representative Matthew Richbell to find out more about the good work they’ve been doing lately. He told us, “I have been involved in the football club for just under two years in an official capacity. I used to watch Winchester City FC as a youngster as I grew up in the city and became involved on the committee of the football club in the summer 2017.” “Prior to this I was on the board of the Wessex League, a local non-league step 5 league, but on leaving this position, I was looking for a new challenge. City were looking for an online programme editor so I took that role on as well as becoming a committee member. I then became Club Secretary in June 2018 and 50 Issue 84 fulfilled that role for six months. I am now currently Commercial Director, a role I took on in January 2019. Alongside this, I still do the Programme. I am also involved in Maintenance around the Ground and I am responsible for the Club’s Social media. “The most challenging area of my role is looking for new sponsorship at the club. The club is self-sufficient, we have no individual benefactors so the club funds itself. Therefore, it is heavily reliant on sponsors to pay the bills and the playing budget. Equally, due to this being such a challenging task, it is also the most rewarding. When a new sponsor comes on board, it is a great feeling because you know the direct benefit that this will have for the football club. “The general mood at the club at the moment is buzzing, absolutely buzzing. The club are currently sitting in the play- off places in the league. We reached a cup semi-final before eventually losing after extra-time. We made the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, the joint-furthest the club has ever been in the FA Cup.
