FOOTBALL CLUB
Hereford Lads CFC was established to give young people an opportunity
to develop and grow through football and does a fine job of doing just
that. Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with Club Representative
Sandra Mifflin to find out more.
Involvement
Sandra told us, “I first got involved with the club when
my son started playing for a team at U9s which led to me
volunteering to help the team/club, and have been club
secretary for the last twelve years!
The most challenging aspect of my role is dealing with
volunteers - we are all volunteers and as such cannot be
‘forced’ to do anything; I can only request and hope for the
best. The most rewarding aspect of my role is seeing the club
develop and grow; over the last five years we have built on the
success of our First Team to gain new changing rooms, a stand
and floodlights, to the benefit of all at the club.”
Atmosphere
“The mood is generally positive although funding
continues to be a challenge; although we have a licensed club
house it is run by a steward and any profits made benefit him

rather than being reinvested in the football side of the club;
however it is nice to see more people using the building - we
have local hockey teams coming back for hospitality as well as
the skittles/darts teams and the boxing gym.”
This Season
“We have more junior teams reaching the local
Herefordshire Junior Football League’s finals which are being
held at Edgar Street than we have for a few years, it will be a
great weekend. We also have girls teams in their cup finals this
season. The junior football season is drawing to a close now,
we are just hoping there will not be any bad weather leading to
cancelled matches and prolonging the season!”
Youth
“We feel youth development is very important, the club was
established to give opportunities for young people to develop
