Cumbernauld Colts Cumbernauld Colts FOOTBALL CLUB Cumbernauld Colts FC was first established in 1969, becoming the town’s first youth football club and quickly developed a superb reputation with a number of players going on to become professionals including Derek Whyte of Celtic, Aberdeen, Middlesbrough and Scotland and Jackie McNamara of Dunfermline, Celtic, Wolves, Aberdeen, Falkirk and Scotland. The club endured a difficult period during the 80s and 90s with a number of teams disbanding before the one remaining side folded in the 1998/99 season. Fortunately, the club was reformed in 1999 with the launch of a single youth age group team and gradually, over the next five years it was steadily built back up to being one of the biggest in the Central Region. The club now runs both Boys and Girls Academy’s for children aged between five and eight and these initiatives play a crucial role in the club’s development as well as allowing players to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment. The club has Girls U9s, U11s, U13s, U15s and adult teams, boys small game sections at every level i.e. U7s, 8s, 9s, 10s, 11s and 12s and 11-a-side teams up to Adult level; in all twenty- four sections with a playing membership of almost 600. The club also delivers a number of community programmes i.e. mini kickers 3-5 years, >35’s, Disability Centre, After School Centres and Weekend Football Centres, these programmes have in excess of 120 participants each week. In 2015, the club were awarded full membership of the Scottish FA and admitted to the SLFL (Scottish Lowland Football League), the clubs first step into the world of senior professional football. This season their first team has enjoyed a steady league campaign, putting together a record of eleven wins, six draws and eleven defeats from their twenty-eight league matches. This sees them sitting in a safe mid-table position with thirty- nine points on the board. “I am manager of the Senior Team as well as being a Director of Cordant People. Cordant People was pleased to help the club and the players have the company logo on their shirts. It is sometimes frustrating when we lose players to clubs that can afford to pay more money, but we realise it is something we have to put up with.” James Orr, Operations Director, Cordant People This should provide them with a solid platform from which to build as they head into the off-season. As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and can perhaps make one or two quality additions they should be in with a good chance of pushing on up the league next time around. It is great to see the progress Cumbernauld Colts FC has made since reforming and hopefully they will be able to continue in the same manner for many years to come. Shaping your future… Cordant People work with local businesses to increase the quality and speed of recruitment for short and long term temporary assignments, as well as permanent positions.
