Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with their Chief Executive Mike Summers to find out more about the good work they’ve been doing lately. Mike told us, “I’ve been with the foundation for around two and a half years now; I love the role and it is great to have the opportunity to make a difference to young people in the local community.” “We exist to help local young people to grow through the power of sport using the brand of Crystal Palace to inspire young people to achieve more in life. We try to help them to fulfil their potential while living healthier and safer lives. As you’ll know there has been something of an epidemic in knife crime and also a major problem with fitness amongst young people so those are two of the main areas that we are looking to tackle. “We deliver activities in the community based around the Premier League ‘Kicks’ programme, delivering football as well as other activities giving young people something to do that’s positive and healthy and brings them in to contact with positive role models. “We have a programme called ‘Healthy Eagles’ which is encouraging 22 Issue 84 young people to improve their diets and to be more physically active. That has been running for around a year and a half and we’re linking that in with the BBC’s ‘Super Movers’ campaign which is encouraging children in primary schools in particular to be more active. “We’ve recently launched a dance video called ‘the Eagle’s Swoop’ which is a dance routine promoting more activity
