called "Save Food" and the purpose was to inspire and work on reducing food waste during the production process. Now, Save Food has partnered with some of the largest NGO's and together are working on making world food systems more efficient. Apart from waste during the production, another twenty percent is produced during distribution. From the point of harvest to consumption, the food has to go through many different steps. One of the most important one is transportation. Because most of the foods do not have a strong layer on the outside, a huge amount of supply is damaged and therefore thrown away. Thanks to the Food Safety Modernization Act (FDA), the transportation industries are following rules that help reduce the number of damaged foods during transport.
Waste by consumers
The biggest reason for food waste are people and their poor choices and decisions. Many consumers buy and throw food without realizing that they are not only wasting food but also the energy, water and land needed to make the product. Impulsive decisions at store and over cooking are both big problems that can be prevented. Before going to the store, decide all the things you want to buy.
This is one of the simplest things to follow and can help in reducing food waste. Over cooking can also be preventable it is a choice that the cook has to make. if the cook knows the exact amount of food he/she needs to make, then leftover is no longer an issue.
