J
ust south of Denver, the town is
a feast for the eyes and for those
craving a taste of the Rocky
Mountains. Founded as a resort town
in 1871 by Civil War hero William Jackson Palmer, the area has been a serene
escape from its beginning. A combination of true western hospitality and
vivacious city life, it’s the perfect blend
of ingredients for an ideal getaway.
One of the area’s most famous resorts, The Broadmoor, is home to the
only Five-Star, Five-Diamond restaurant in the state. The Penrose Room
has offered indulgence since opening
in 1961. Patrons can enjoy an extensive
European wine list along with dancing
and live entertainment. Another great
stop on property is The Golden Bee, an
authentic 19th century English Pub
that was shipped piece-by-piece and
reassembled. Popular menu items are
the fish and chips and the “yard” of
beer. Other area fine dining choices
include The Famous Steakhouse, McKenzie’s Chophouse and The Peppertree.
