EDITOR IN CHIEF
FTM, WE’RE ENDLESSLY FASCINATED by all things
travel-the food, the destination, the chefs. And one food
traveler we’re always fascinated by is Andrew Zimmern. So
for our inaugural issue, we invited him to be our first-ever
celebrity chef to be interviewed. Andrew contributed his favorite summer travel
destinations. From Ecuador, Sardinia, and the Greek Islands to Japan and North
Vietnam. Andrew shares the experiences, cuisine and culture visitors will find
in each location.

Japan is one of the
most food forward
nations on the planet;
there is everything in
the world. I’m a big fan
of Southern Japan, especially in the summer.
Sardinia is all
about the seafood: octopus; sea
urchin; small fish
grilled whole over
bundles of dried
herbs that grow like
weeds all over the
hillsides

In North Vietnam
the greatest thing
you will find are the
shacks where fishermen and their wives
will cook dishes from
shrimp spring rolls to
homemade fish sauce,
sautéed greens and
grilled fish served over
broken rice noodles.

From the Greek
Islands and the
Dodecanese, to the
Turkish mainland
and through Dalyan,
they also eat a lot of
seafood, and a lot of
goat. I am a fan of
both.

“
NATIONAL SALES MANAGER
In 2013, we spend too much time defining ourselves in
relation to other people by our differences: color of our skin,
what music we like, our politics, our sexuality, our religion.
It’s horrible. I’m interested in having conversations with
people about the things that unite us. I’m interested in the
things that we all can relate to, like the favorite meal our
grandparents made us. – Andrew Zimmern
