Endorsements
The fourth and final type of voluntary claim regulated in the new
health claims system is an endorsement; which are NCCs or health
claims made with the permission of
an ‘endorsing body’. The endorsing
body must be a not-for-profit entity
with a nutrition or health-related
function or purpose, not be related to the supplier, be independent
of the supplier and be free from
influence by the supplier. Records
demonstrating the nature of the relationship, including permissions to
make the endorsement, are stipulated and must be maintained for production if requested by a state food
regulator to review compliance.
