Food Quality Magazine
ISSUE 02 | APRIL 2015
Introduction
Welcome to this issue of Food
Quality Magazine.
If you see this magazine for the
first time, you may ask the question, “Why another magazine?“, and
you have a reason to ask. There
are plenty of magazines on food quality and food safety topics.
However, from 20 years of auditing
experience, it is clear that there is a huge number of food
companies, having difficulties in following all necessary
information in this time of information boom. They are
constantly looking for information sources, which will
keep them acquainted in the important areas to ensure
their food safety and quality management systems are
well developed, implemented and up to date to the latest requirements of the standards applied.
This was the reason, QUALIFOOD, a company with decades of experience in consulting and auditing to GFSI
approved standards decided to publish the magazine.
The magazine is focused on key standards used in the food industry in area of food quality and safety. The GFSI`s
(Global Food Safety Initiative`s) approved standards
are one of the most important standards in the food
industry. You will find in our magazine regular updates
on the BRC, IFS, FSSC 22000, SQF, GlobalGAP standards,
together with articles describing the implementation
of individual requirements. The magazine (including its
Czech version published since 2001) is a long term media
partner of GFSI`s Global Food Safety Conference.
After the publishing of the new 7th version of BRC Global
Standard for Food Safety, changes in the standard are
obviously subject of interest of our magazine. You will
find information about excellent tool for implementing
the new version in “From our Bookshelf“ section. One of
the new key requirements of the version 7 is food fraud.
There were a lot of written materials on that subject, but
no practical example of food fraud prevention measures
were available yet. For this reason, you will find example
of Food fraud prevention procedure on pagest 20 to 23
of this magazine.
Food fraud is directly connected with the supply chain
and its complexity. That is a subject of another article by
Evangelia Komitopoulou, Global Technical Manager for
Food, SGS.
There is a large number of different certification schemes
available on the market which are applicable in food sector. We provide information about several of them and
in this issue, we included an article in UTZ certification,
describing sustainable certification of certain crops as
cocoa, cofee and others.
In his article, Vikas N, Technical Manager - Food
Inspections at TÜV SÜD South Asia discusses about visual evaluation of apple and gives practical overview on
possible apple defects.
In regular sections “Food Industry News“, “Food Safety
Crises“, “From our Bookshelf“ and “Events“, you will find
updates on important news, events, publications and
crises relevant to the focus of our magazine.
I believe you will find this magazine useful in your daily
work. If so, the magazine will fulfill its goal, which is to
help the food companies by providing them important
and up to date information in simple, understandable
and practical ways. We decided on free subscription to
enable all sizes and levels of companies, from any part of
the world, access to information.
If you enjoy the magazine or any specific articles, we
would be happy if you help us by sharing them on social
media.
