Publisher’s Note
Welcome to the August issue - A Collector’s item with highlights of our bigger and better 11th
edition of the India International Pet Trade Fair (IIPTF).
The IIPTF - our signature event is South Asia’s largest forum for the global pet industry. This
year IIPTF introduces the Indian Pet Industry Dialogue (IPID) wherein industry leaders, pet
entrepreneurs and business owners will come together to deliberate on the state of the pet industry
in India, its future growth path from a national and international perspective.
The Indian Pet Industry Awards will recognise pet businesses, entrepreneurs and NGOs who have
excelled in the domestic pet industry.
This year’s exhibition, besides the usual stalls having Indian and international brands displaying an
A to Z range of pet products and services; will have concurrent events – 3rd Aquagic - a forum
for ornamental fish hobbyists and a platform for aquarium companies to display their products;
a Feline Convention by Feline Club of India; a dog grooming workshop and an interaction with
international all breeds judges. Don’t miss our Fair Catalogue between pages 60 and 73.
Now for an overview of the pet industry in India.
The Indian Pet market has witnessed a meteoric rise in the past few years with the growing
numbers of pet parents in Indian metros, the changing perception of people towards pet keeping
and the abundance of information available.
Start-ups and new business ventures are mushrooming to cater to the growing demands of this
niche segment. Thus the pet industry is now one of the fastest expanding and most lucrative trades
in India.
Trends in the pet care industry are mirroring the ones in human section as people want the best
for their furry companions. With the rise in veganism and vegetarianism, pet food is also going
through a steady shift from packaged food to fresh dietary products. Causing much shake up and
innovation within the industry is the direct to consumer on line business trends wherein brick and
mortar stores are being forced to jump on the e-commerce band wagon as well.
The trend of cats as pets in India is showing positive signs of a paradigm shift with a growing tribe
of urban Indians falling in love with felines.
The interview section highlights myriad facets of f the domestic pet care market –
s, new acquisitions and extravagant
established brands, innovative product launches,
pet couture. The domestic pet market has come a long way from its initial years
uggling to find a foothold in the
where established international brands were struggling
Indian scenario.
