Food For Thought September 2012

food Dear Colleagues We have passed the half way point for 2012 and the Group is performing well to-date. Despite the many challenges in the wider economic environment it is clear to me that Glanbia’s core strength is its high calibre people at all levels who continue to adjust and adapt to keep the business moving forward. Milestones, large and small, continue to be achieved and this is a great source of pride. Some highlights that come to mind include; new weekly output records achieved at Ballyragget cheese plant and on powder output at Virginia, the remarkable business continuity delivered by GNIT after the Angusville plant fire, the really effective roll-out of a new milk purchasing model in Idaho and the assured delivery of the new plant build by Customised for thought summer 2012 Solutions in Germany. These are but a small set of examples but highlight for me what drives the success of the Group; committed people focused on striving for excellence and thus shaping the future. As you are aware we are in constructive discussions with our majority shareholder, Glanbia Co-operative Society, with a view to creating a new joint venture in respect of Dairy Ingredients Ireland. This is designed to adapt the Group business model to enable and facilitate the growth opportunity presented by the expansion of milk output post the abolition of milk quotas in 2015 in Ireland. This development together with the continued successful creation of the international growth strategy led by expansion in Global Nutritionals will position the Group well for the future. Our collective experience, focus and ability to collaborate across the Group will continue to underpin development as a Global food group. This will be beneficial for all stakeholders. On this note I want to thank all colleagues for their continued commitment as we face the future with confidence.
