PIGS, PIPELINES AND LIQUID PRODUCT RECOVERY
There will be pigs at the PPMA Show 2026, but not the kind you might expect.
How much valuable product is left in your pipelines?
On Stand A51, HPS Product Recovery Solutions will show manufacturers how to recover valuable product quickly, hygienically and automatically across a wide range of applications, from chocolate, sauces and honey to beverages, dairy products and other liquid foods.
Recovering more product makes a noticeable difference to yield, particularly when expensive ingredients are involved. It also means less product enters the cleaning system, helping to reduce water use, cleaning chemicals and effluent. Faster cleaning and changeovers gives manufacturers more time for production too.
Once a product transfer is finished, product is often left behind in the pipeline. This is particularly common with thicker products such as chocolate, sauces, honey and yoghurt, although it can happen with many different liquids. In a lot of cases, the remaining product is simply flushed out during cleaning and sent to waste, despite the ingredients, energy and time already spent making it.
That is where pigging comes in. An HPS system sends a specially designed projectile, known as a pig, through the pipeline. It pushes the remaining product towards its intended destination, where it can be used or sold instead of being washed away. The process is quick, fully enclosed and automatic, making it well suited to hygienic production environments.

Visitors to Stand A51 can put their questions directly to the HPS team and discuss where product may be getting lost in their own processes. This could involve recovering chocolate from a transfer line, reducing sauce losses between batches or moving beverages more efficiently between tanks and filling equipment. Every production line is different, so HPS designs each system around the individual application.
There will be some fun on the stand too, with a hands-on game inspired by the pigging process. Visitors will have to stop by to discover exactly what it involves!
