Reducing downtime through effective moisture management

Residual moisture on high-speed packaging lines may seem insignificant, but it can have a major impact on production efficiency. Even small amounts of water left on cans or bottles after rinsing can interfere with sensors and vision systems, causing false rejects when compliant products fail inspection.
Unnecessary rejects reduce overall equipment effectiveness; increasing waste, disrupting production and false results for KPIs. As manufacturers work to improve throughput while maintaining strict quality standards, preventing avoidable stoppages is becoming increasingly important.
The challenge is growing as packaging lines become faster and more sophisticated. Lightweight cans, containers, intricate labelling and high-precision inspection systems leave little room for moisturerelated inconsistencies. Water droplets can distort camera images, leading to inaccurate inspection results.
To minimise these issues, many manufacturers are introducing targeted drying systems at key stages of the packaging process, particularly before coding, labelling and inspection. Removing residual moisture before products reach vision equipment helps create more stable inspection conditions and reduces false rejects.
