Rooftop solar is becoming an increasingly important part of the energy strategy for factories, chilled warehouses and distribution centres of food and drink.
A birds-eye view of any commercial estate across the UK will increasingly reveal hundreds of solar panels on the roofs of factories and warehouses, helping to produce the energy they need.
And, with the addition of conflict in the Middle East and global uncertainty over energy costs and supplies, even more food and drink companies are looking to invest in solar energy.
That’ s according to Fusion 360, a UK-wide installer of solar panel systems on large structures including the premises of manufacturers and distributors of food and beverages.
“ One of the strongest benefits of installing solar panels is the reduced reliance on mains energy. Add to that the increased sustainability and lower costs, particularly when powering energy-hungry refrigeration and chillers, and it’ s perhaps clear why we’ re seeing growing interest from businesses helping to feed Britain” says Joanne Skinner, Commercial Director of Fusion 360.
Due to the widespread use of refrigeration and chillers within processing and storage facilities, as well as the energy consumed by refrigerated trailers, the food and drink sector can be highly energydependent.
