Stainless Steel Torque Limiters for Hygienic Drive Systems

Operational Characteristics
All variants are designed for maintenance-free or lowmaintenance operation and offer high release accuracy for reliable overload protection. Depending on the coupling type, they provide either misalignment compensation or vibration damping. The durable stainless steel construction ensures long service life, even under aggressive environmental and cleaning conditions.
With the ECWB and ECWD series for direct drives and the ECV and ECW series for indirect drives, ENEMAC offers a comprehensive portfolio of stainless steel safety couplings for use in hygienically sensitive environments. These couplings are specifically designed for industries such as food and beverage processing, pharmaceuticals, medical technology, cleanroom applications, and general process industries with frequent cleaning and disinfection cycles.
Design and Materials
All couplings are manufactured entirely from high-grade stainless steel and are consistently designed without coatings. This eliminates the risk of particle generation and significantly reduces corrosion susceptibility— key requirements in hygiene-critical applications. The integrated disc springs are also made of stainless steel. Their compact and robust design supports hygienic machine layouts and enables straightforward integration into modern drive systems.
Function and Application
The couplings function as precise torque limiters, reliably protecting machinery and equipment against overload. For
56 FDPP- www. fdpp. co. uk direct drive systems, the ECWB combines a torque limiter with a metal bellows coupling, allowing for the compensation of shaft misalignment while maintaining high torsional stiffness and precise torque transmission. The ECWD integrates a torque limiter with an elastomer coupling, offering additional vibration damping, backlash-free operation, and a plug-in design that simplifies installation.
For indirect drives, such as chain or timing belt systems, the ECV and ECW provide compact and robust solutions capable of handling high lateral loads. They are available with different shafthub connections, either via keyway( ECV) or clamping hub( ECW), ensuring flexibility in mechanical integration.
Technical Overview
Across the product range, the couplings cover a torque range from 5 Nm to 900 Nm. Shaft diameters for the direct drive variants range from 8 mm to 65 mm, while the indirect drive versions are designed for speeds up to 4,000 rpm and lateral loads up to 30,000 N. The permissible temperature ranges extend from – 50 ° C to + 150 ° C for the ECWB and from – 30 ° C to + 90 ° C for the ECWD.
Conclusion for Design Engineers
The ECWB, ECWD, ECV, and ECW series provide a consistent and technically robust solution for hygienic overload protection in both direct and indirect drive systems. By combining precise torque limiting, high operational reliability, and hygienic design principles, they are ideally suited for demanding applications with strict requirements for cleanliness, corrosion resistance, and system availability.
