implementing plans to lift or modify
current quarantine orders, federal
leaders are preparing for a postquarantine
United States that
nonetheless still faces the ongoing
threat of COVID-19. Some federal
leaders have set their sights on
governmental action which has
significant implications for the
agricultural industry.
Sen. Warren, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez to Introduce
Pandemic Anti-Monopoly Act
On April 28, 2020, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass)
and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
(D-N.Y.) announced their intention to introduce the
Pandemic Anti-Monopoly Act. According to Sen.
Warren and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, the proposed Act
would impose a moratorium on “risky mergers and
acquisitions—and stop large corporations from
exploiting the pandemic to engage in harmful mergers
and strengthen the federal government’s ability to
respond effectively to future crises.” In support of the
proposed legislation, Sen. Warren expressed her view
