Act 69, 2014 Early Literacy and Dyslexia Pilot The pilot began this fall in eight school dustricts across Pennsylvania. See Links below. The Teachers and interventionist spent the summer being trained in Orton Gillingham (interventionist) and the teachers with an overview of OG. The rst screening was done in October and the second in late January early February. There have been a few bumps in the road, trained staff leaving and some school districts aquiring new curriculum, not related to the pilot, that have required a greater learning curve but all things public schools deal with on a regular basis. The Pennsylvania Department of Education, Special Education Bureau held their annual conference in Hershey PA in February. The pilot and the importance of early literacy screening were highlighted. In a panel discussion of staff and adminstrators involved in the pilot, one teacher expressed her excitement over learning Orton Gillingham and the results she is seeing with her students.
