ONE MATERIAL, MANY SOLUTIONS!

The human civilization stage reached at the present moment is related to the science progress in the study of metals.
Since ancient times, starting the Bronze Age, metal had an important role in the life of human communities, helping the development of the society. From the ancient world seven metals: gold, copper, silver, lead, tin, iron and mercury, science has progressed enormously, reaching special alloys like uranium, plutonium on a sacrifices sprinkled road.
To understand the need for metals and to discover their world we have to look around us and realize that some things around us are made of metal whose discovery, obtaining and processing include the efforts of tens of thousands of people.
One of the current civilization indispensable metal is steel, an alloy of iron and carbon whose percentage is between 0,018 % and 2.04 %.
How would the world be without steel? Well, perhaps we would never have reached the present level of development and many things would have remained unknown, many would have remained undiscovered.
Steel is the material most widely used in industry. the railroad tracks, major components of aircrafts, tools, knives and many other things that may at first seem trivial led the world to the present moment and to the actual development stage.
There are simple things without which we could not eat or travel to every corner of the world, we could not enjoy life like we do now.
So, can we imagine the world without steel? Andreea Sandu
