Bass
Habitat and Diet:
White bass lives in large lakes and rivers. During the spring
mating season, they will move into shallower rivers and streams.
They do not like muddy waters or areas with a lot of plant life.
White bass are carnivores. Young white bass eats mostly insect
larvae, while adult consume small fish like minnows.
Relationship to humans:
White bass area a sport fish, sought especially during their
spawning season and are good to eat. They are an important
part of the food web as a mid-level predator and serving as food
for larger fish.
Fun/Unusual fact:
The white bass is the only true member of the bass family native
to Michigan (the largemouth bass and smallmouth bass are
actually members of the sunfish family).
